The Chartered Insurance Institute has faced another issue with its exams as it published the incorrect results date on its website.

Many candidates were awaiting the results for the September sitting of the CII’s AF5 exam which was to be released today (November 10).

For a lot of people, this was the last exam on the path to becoming chartered.

However, upon checking the website yesterday, the CII did not have the usual results countdown on its website.

According to the CII’s ‘important exam deadlines’ webpage today, the results for this exam date have now changed to next Friday (November 17).

FTAdviser understands that the CII is aware of the mistake with one date on its website. It had been stated accurately earlier this year, but an editorial error resulted in it being changed to November 10.

That error was spotted earlier this week and it was corrected back to November 17.

One individual said: "I would just say that like many others, this is my last exam on the road to being chartered and I so I was obviously really disappointed to find out, essentially at the last minute, that the results wouldn’t be out for another week. What a let down.

Candidates were not informed of the mistake and some took to social media.

Following this, the CII wrote to all candidates yesterday to confirm the correct date, with the following email.

"We are writing to you regarding the 2023 AF5 exam results publication date.

"Due to an editorial error, our website temporarily displayed tomorrow, Friday 10 November, as the publication date. The correct date for the AF5 exam results publication is Friday 17 November.

"We apologise sincerely for any inconvenience that this error may have caused and wish you all the best in your exam results next Friday."

Previous exam troubles

In January, the CII experienced exam difficulties after dealing with a “technical problem” on its R06 exam.

In a tweet at the time, the CII said the R06 exam which was due to start at 1pm was “experiencing a technical problem”.

The CII has been plagued with a number of technical issues over the past couple of years.

In November 2021, the CII faced exam glitches as candidates were unable to view their results and certificates online.

During the pandemic, the CII also apologised to candidates for “unacceptable instances” including problems with accessing remote invigilation sessions and technical issues during sittings.

Candidates had experienced a delayed start to a remote invigilated exam in July 2020, followed by some candidates experiencing technical issues with a remote multiple choice exam in August.

Technical issues continued in test centres in October 2020, with candidates claiming their computer system froze or shut down hours into the exam.

However, these issues continued into 2021. In March, the CII was forced to issue its exam results a day early after it suffered a technical issue, causing confusion among candidates. In April, it was reported that advisers were unable to take exams due to system failure.
