Charles Stanley has appointed the former global head of fixed income at Aviva Investors to a newly-created role in its ranks.
Dan James has joined Charles Stanley as its head of asset management, where he will be responsible for "building scale, growing revenue and driving future development" for the wealth manager.
James formerly headed up the global fixed income division at Aviva Investors, before leaving in 2018 after more than seven years at the company.
Prior to his time at Aviva he began his investment career at Mercury Asset Management as a private client portfolio manager before working for ABN Amro Asset Management, Fortis Investments and BNP Asset Management.
Paul Abberley, chief executive at Charles Stanley, said: "Dan’s proven expertise, experience and industry know-how positions him well to advance our asset management capability and build on our reputation for delivering exceptional client service.
"I look forward to working with him to taking our cost-effective, market-leading proposition to the next level and protecting and enhancing investor return."
Last month the wealth manager reported it had enjoyed a 10 per cent uplift in its assets towards the end of 2020 when it benefited from a market improvement of more than £2bn.
In a quarterly trading update the company revealed its funds under management had risen by 10 per cent over the three months to December to £25.1bn whilst its revenues decreased slightly by 1.2 per cent to £42.2m.
In November, Charles Stanley revealed a 40 per cent drop in pre-tax profits for the first six months of its financial year, from £8.1m in the same period in 2019 to £4.8m in 2020.
The company partially pointed to its Financial Services Compensation Scheme levy as driving down profits after its bill tripled in the space of two years to £3.5m.
