Dementia research - join us on our voyage of discovery

The journey so far

In 2023, coverage of IUAD’s Insurance Day for Dementia reached over 127,000 insurance colleagues.

  • The day itself raised £209,214, exceeding the fantastic £171,000 raised in 2022.
  • 60 companies across insurance engaged, demonstrating the industry’s collective commitment to the cause.
  • 31 companies shared information with their staff, resulting in an estimated 127,829 people knowing more about dementia and how they can make a difference.

Having the right crew matters

£209,214 is equal to one year of funding for seven PhD students. Dementia Research needs the best and brightest minds to tackle the challenge of dementia and without Early Career Researchers, dementia research would stall and the breakthroughs so needed for people affected would not be possible.

Last year, Alzheimer’s Society awarded funding to 21 Early Career Researchers across 24 grants and these researchers will shape our understanding of dementia for generations to come.

One more reason to sign up

If you needed any other incentive, Z-Zurich Foundation is matching pound for pound anything raised up to a total of £100,000 as well as donating an additional £5 per person (up to £10,000) for simply getting involved in the day's activities.

Financial navigators

Advisers are of course well placed to help people living with dementia and their families navigate a wide range of issues that will include wills, powers of attorney, vulnerability and more. Many thanks to the press gang at FT Adviser for their ongoing support for the IUAD campaign, but also for drawing attention to these key planning issues.

A beacon for others to follow

I’ll leave the last words to Kate Lee, CEO, Alzheimer’s Society: "Alzheimer's Society are incredibly proud of our partnership with the insurance industry.

"Since 2017, we’ve witnessed the transformative impact of one industry’s mission to help tackle the UK’s leading health and social challenge. IUAD has not only raised an astonishing £9.5mn to support the lives of those affected by dementia, but has become a beacon of industry-wide commitment to tackle the UK’s biggest killer.

"The campaign stands as a testament to the industry's collective strength and commitment to making a positive impact in the fight against dementia. Through the insurance industry’s generous support, we can continue to provide life changing services for people affected by dementia today, while delivering hope for the future."
