In the past, regulators took the view that this type of illiquid asset - typically structured for large institutional investors - was not suitable for retail investors.
This is changing now, especially in Europe with the launch of the European Long-Term Investment Fund (ELTIF), and the Long-Term Asset Fund (LTAF) in the UK.
